In 2023 this image was chosen from more than 3,600 entries in the North American Nature Photography Showcase competition as First Runner Up in the category Altered Reality, placing in the top 26 photographs of all that were entered. The image of the elephant itself is the original photograph. Through masking and adding texture, what had been a distracting background was transformed into an artistic representation of the red dust which is synonymous with the Tsavo region of Kenya where the photo was taken.
